Descriptive Essay

Write a one-page description of a place that you visited that had an impact on you. It can be a positive or negative impact, somewhere you went often or only one time.

One bit of advice that writers are often given is to show, instead of telling. So, if you wanted to write about going to an NFL game, you could tell us the crowd was exciting or you can describe the crowd. You can tell us it was big or you can use a figure of speech – as big as, as crowded as, as loud as. . . .

So here’s the exact assignment –

 Choose a place that had an impact on you

 Decide in advance what the impact was and what you want the reader to feel as they read your description

 Describe the place so we can imagine it ourselves

 Your description should be at least one page in length
